Biography

Samuel Louis began his piano study with Grace and Dietmar Schmuecker before moving to London to study with Douglas Finch, Philip Fowke, and Patsy Toh, where he gained his Master of Music at King's College London. 

Sam has won various awards such as the first prize of "Il Circolo" Competition at the Italian Cultural Centre, Piano Transcription Competition, and has given recitals throughout the UK and Canada, including twice for Yamaha Artist Service Europe at Chappell, London, and "Ronald Stevenson at 80" event at St. John's Smith Square, which he played a solo recital and a performance of Ronald Stevenson's Piano Concerto No.1 in the presence of the composer.  He also received the King's London Award for his contribution towards the London community from King's College London.

Sam has participated in many masterclasses given by world-renowned artists such as Dina Parakhina, Nelita True, Angela Hewitt, Leslie Howard, Joseph Banowetz, Anton Kuerti, and Murray McLachlan. He frequently performs with his duo partner Mansoon Bow, including a performance of the complete Schumann Violin Sonatas at Pheonix Hall, Osaka.

As a diverse musician, Sam is a musician with multiple interests. Other than being a concert pianist, Sam has conducted his orchestra in Vancouver. In London, he conducted a production of Mozart's "La Finta Giardiniera" with the opera company 'Opera at Home', which gave many performances at venues such as the Reform Club London and Greenwich Playhouse in 2010. Sam served as Director of Music at St. Paul's and St James's, Stratford, London for many years, where he was responsible for improvising and leading congregational singing. 

As a composer, Sam has been commissioned by the East-West Gala Chorus in London to write choral works for this group. His arrangement of the Chinese folk songs "Dai Hai/Dragon's Descendants" was premiered at the China Exchange Cultural Centre www.chinaexchange.uk. In addition, he composed many hymns for Catholic Mass, which have been sung in Canada and South East Asia.

Sam co-founded iFamiLove Music Foundation. As the music director of the Foundation, Sam is responsible for organizing music events, notably for the two ongoing series, Recital Series and Music Salon.
